How To Organize Your Closet

The one thing that we generally find with closets is that they are disorganized. A true Diva will always have a well organized closet so that she can easily find the clothing she needs at a moment's notice.

The easiest way to organize your closet is to start from scratch. You need to completely empty out your closet so that you can see the clothing you need and see the space you have to work with. You need to have your closet set up in a way that makes sense but if you live in an apartment where you cannot make structural changes then we will just work with what you have.

If you have double rods in your closet then you can breathe a sigh of relief because this makes your job so much easier. You can put tops on the higher rod and skirts and pants on the lower rods for easy retrieval. If you only have the one row of rods that is still okay because we can work with it.

Step One: Sorting The first step is to sort out all of your clothes. You need to separate the clothes into piles that make sense. Pick up each item and see if it is usable. Usable means that the clothing is clean and mended. If it meets the criteria, then you can further sort it into one of four piles:
  • Tops
  • Skirts
  • Pants
  • Other
If the clothing is dirty then it needs to go into the laundry basket for cleaning at a later time. If the clothing is ripped, frayed or missing buttons then it needs to go into a mending pile where you can take care of that need later as well.

Tops refers to blouses and shirts. These are the everyday items that you wear and do not include jackets. Jackets and coats belong in a totally different closet if you have one, or they can go into the Other category.

Skirts refers to skirts obviously, while Pants can contain jeans, dress pants and khakis. Other refers to all of the outerwear like jackets, coats and scarves that really should not be placed next to the lighter items.

Of course sweaters do not count as part of this group because sweaters should be folded in a drawer, not hung. After you have done all of the sorting you are ready to move onto step Two: Colorizing.

Step Two: Colorizing
. The next step is quite possibly the most important part of organizing your closet because it makes the amount of time you have to search for items seem to disappear. (image taken from http://realcolorwheel.com/jpgchartssm.htm)

Most people will tell you that you do not need to divide your items into color groups but EVERY true Diva knows that you MUST sort by color to have the best looking closet you can possibly have.

This step takes a little bit of time but it will be worth it in the end. The best way to sort by color is to go according to the color flow chart.

I start with white in front of the yellow and move on from there. You need to put all shirts together and arrange them by color, following the color wheel.

I put beige and brown between yellow and orange and then place pink (our Fabulous Diva color!!!) between Red Orange and Red.

I round up the end of the closet with grey and then black but I am thinking that you can start with black, fade to grey, go to white and then yellow and continue with the rest of the color wheel. Once you have finished organizing all the tops by color it is really easy to organize the skirts and then the pants.

Chances are you will not have nearly as many different colors of skirts and pants as you do tops. You can breathe easy now because you are almost done with your organizing.

Keep placing the pants and skirts on hangers following the color wheel and soon your closet will look like a work of art.

Live Green and Think Pink

Although this blog is devoted to thinking Pink, we do have to give a nod to Earth Day. Earth Day is all about living green but I think this is something we should strive to do every day and not just one day out of the year.

Living green can not only help you to live a better life but you can also save money and save the environment.

Think Pink and be a fabulous Diva who Lives Green and cares about the planet. Go green today by bringing your own shopping bag when you go shopping. This will cut down on the plastic bags that we use every day and will mean less waste in our landfills.

Go green today by using organic makeup like that from Burt's Bees. Save the earth and still manage to look like the fabulous Diva that you are!!!!!

What other ways can you think of to think pink and live green?

Try Vanilla Sugar from Bath and Body Works

Today I went into Bath and BodyWorks and got a GREAT deal on some shower gels and lotions. There is a great promotion now at Bath and Body Works where you can choose any five items for $25!

This is a wonderful deal since some of the lotions run from $7 and above so you could easily spend about $50 for the set.

Now while I could not find the image for the Vanilla Sugar which is what I bought today, you can still try out the Vanilla in its original form because it smells just as good.

Ahhh.

Feng Shui My Way

The art of Feng Shui has been practiced for many years and many believe that it can lead to:
  • Better Health
  • Increased Prosperity and
  • Better Relationships

Feng Shui is simply the art of arranging objects in your surroundings to enhance the flow of energy, which is also called the Chi. There are a few steps that you can take in order to practice Feng Shui and they are very easy to follow.

Step One: Remove Clutter
One of the first things you need to do when attempting to begin Feng Shui is to remove the clutter in your home.

Clutter blocks the flow of positive energy and can even recycle the flow of negative energy, which results in a bad situation for you and your home.

You do not have to throw everything away when you are cleaning up the clutter. Sometimes the things that make up clutter can be put in a new place. To properly manage clutter you can

  • Throw it away
  • Donate it
  • Recycle it
  • Repurpose it

Step Two: Manage your entrance
The point you enter your home is the most important part when taking note of Feng Shui principles because this is the area that people see when they come into your home.

Step Three: Manage your Beauty
Find beautiful things to put in and around your home to make it look better. I recently got a lucky bamboo that I put up in the entrance to my home to make it look better.

The lucky bamboo not only brings a sense of elegance into my home, it is also a symbol of good money flow so I am expecting to see my financial situation improve soon.

Fashion Don't with Rhianna

I have no idea what Rihianna was thinking when she donned this unbelievable fashion Don't. Her stylist needs to be beaten over the head with a swatch of that fabric for allowing the poor girl to wear this.

It looks like a some thrift store fabric went crazy an attacked the small framed singer.

Honestly this is such a bad get up I cannot imagine why she would wear it. The top alone can pass but when paired with the pants it just makes me want to beat her with a fashion stick.

The taper makes the pants look clownish at worst and M C Hammerish at best.

Come on girl..we KNOW you can dress better than that. A TRUE Diva would NOT be caught in that mess.
