Armpit Whitening Update

Hello again Divas!!!

Sorry that I have been away for so long but I really appreciate the comments. I tried waxing my armpits in order to whiten them and I have had some mixed results.

I just wanted to give an update on how the armpits look now.
This is the right armpit taken today with the camera phone. Here is what that armpit looked like when I first decided to stop shaving and start waxing.
Actually I am not sure if that is the left arm or the right arm....I mixed up the pics. But be assured that both pits are equally dark...black even.

I originally started using the wax strips shown here:
but then I ran out of them. I moved on to using the wax kit shown here instead and it was an experience!!!!
The wax kit is MUCH harder to use because you have to microwave the wax but not get it too hot where you burn yourself.

Well I warmed up the wax and then ran back to the bathroom to apply it. I got one swipe with the stick and then the stick decided to get stuck to my underarm...so I had to gently nudge it off.

I then applied the strip and pressed it down a few times. After a few seconds I grabbed the strip, said a prayer and let 'er rip.

Ouch!

Using the melted wax hurts more than the other wax strips.

It did take out more hair.....and skin.

I think the melted wax works better but it just takes more practice to get it done right. I will stick with that and see what happens.

I think the pits look lighter....what do you think?

Well it does look like you have photographs of your two different underarms. If they were the same darkness, the bottom one does look a bit lighter. :)

I tried using those wax strips that you warm between your hands then peel apart, but they left entirely too much residue on my skin. It didn't even seem worth the effort for me.

Good luck! I'm gonna take some before and after photos when I get that peeling kit off eBay, will let you know how it goes.

Have a good weekend!

Hi, I don't think waxing will whiten your armpits. Waxing only takes out hair. My friend in the Philippines goes to a dermatologist and gets some kind of laser treatment. She said that it will take a couple of visits but seems to be working.

Diva In Training said...

@ Cristina
I cannot afford laser treatments now. When I use the wax strips I found they left a lot of residue also, so I decided to warm them up with a hair dryer instead of just rubbing them with my hands. The wax melts better and it works.

@ Babbette
The waxing helps to exfoliate and I can see dark skin cells on the strip when I am done.

Maybe I can help - I have a recipe for homemade hair removal "wax" that's actually sugar, lemon juice and water. I've used it for years. MUCH less painful and it washes off, well, like sugar water. If anyone would like the recipe, give me a shout on my blog.

Wax is not forgiving at ALL! You're brave to even try it under your arms!

I too have recently decided to try wax versus shaving. I've been trying different brands of the kind with strips that you warm between your hands and like them best. The residue comes off very easily when you use the extra stuff (oil, "post" wipes etc.)included with the package afterwards. Comes off completely and is soothing. I'm saving for laser, but in the meantime am extremely happy (not saying it's super easy)that I switched and am already noticing some hairs coming out a lot easier and filling in lighter. It saves so much time in the shower and I feel alot more feminine and maintenance free on my in between days. :)

@ Lori
I am desperate....have you really looked at the pics and seen how gross my pits look?

Diva In Training said...

@ Anonymous.
I know how you feel. Just this morning I was saying how my armpits feel so soft and smooth after waxing.

Now if only I could get rid of that awful blacknesss.

Anonymous said...

keep on waxing! but You could try peeling them, or using a bleaching cream like Amira or pervil to whiten them because I believe that waxing will only make them softer not whiter...

Diva In Training said...

What kind of peel would I use?

I am about ready to try acid if that would work...... :-)

Anonymous said...

I am filipina and have the same issue. Are you also of the same background? I have the same problem and it's embarrassing. Still searching for a miracle.

Diva In Training said...

@ Anonymous. I am actually Black with a mixed background. My grandfather was white on mother's side, and chinese on father's side.

My skin tone is a light golden brown and I have sometimes been mistaken for white with a really fabulous tan.

I wish waxing would work for me. My pits actually got darker when I waxed. I don't know if it's because it needs to heal after pulling all of that skin off or what...so I stopped. I'm trying this skin lightner cream specifically for armpits to see if it'll work. It's a Dagget & Ramsdell product..maybe you can look into it.

Diva In Training said...

I missed a few of my waxing sessions...but I will be starting up again and will post some updated pictures of my scary armpits soon.

I ordered some lightening cream but the person never delivered and I had to get my money back...so I am cautious about ordering items online.

Anonymous said...

Oh wow that sucks. What site did you go to? Palmer's has tons of skin lightening products you can try. They're like my favorite brand haha. Even better is the fact that you can find this brand everywhere, and they also have an official site where you can order things.

www.etbrowne.com I wish I could buy it all..:[

I've been using my armpit lightening cream for two weeks now, only at night, and I can tell a big difference. My armpits are rediculously smooth too haha. I've learned that the secret ingredient that makes the magic is Kojic Acid...just a lil interesting fact.

Diva In Training said...

I forgot the name of the site I went to....got it on my computer at home.

I waxed again today...oh the pain. So I might take pics tomorrow to see the changes.

Anonymous said...

Good of you to share your experience. Keep at it i think it'll work. I see a BIG improvement in your pics already. Have you ever thought of having your underarms professionally waxed? i've had two sessions at a salon waxing and i think it's making a differnce.I'm goin to keep at it. Hope i get back to my normal skin colour.

Anonymous said...

i have that problem to... and the worst part is im a guy.. do you have any tips for me??.. T_T

Anonymous said...

TBH ur armpits are just HAIRY and nothing will work

I had the same problem for most of my adult life with the dark pits. I have found the only thing that works for me is 100% natural Aloe Vera gel with no alcohol or dye added. I simply apply it as often as possible and try not to let it dry out too much. It will also eliminate the need for deodorant (you will still sweat though). I hope this helps.

Anonymous said...

I had the same problem during my pregnancy and a while after. It took a while to get them lighter but it was worth it. First of all I stopped shaving during the week, every sunday I shaved so I wouldnt look like big foot. Instead of using deodorant I actually used a mixture of baby powder (with aloe) and baking soda. I used Zest exfoilating scrub and a loofah and washed in a circular motion. When I really needed deodorant I used a roll on from Mother Earth Market. Its all natural with no dyes or fragrances. It was called roll on deodorant.. no fancy name.

I have dark underarms as well, but they've gotten wayyyy better since I started using Diana Stalder products. I used the Diana Stalder glutathione soap and the lightening cream. My underarms got 2 shades lighter (maybe even more) within only a month of use. You can buy the products from www.southgain-skin-care.com for a pretty good price. Another great site for the products is http://www.skin-whitening-product.com/diana-stalder-whitening.html. Good luck!!

Anonymous said...

Gah damn! You aite?

Anonymous said...

Hi! Usually they darken because of natural friction, hormonal changes (like pregnancy), or trauma. I suggest you quit waxing, scrubbing, shaving etc. too often. And check your deodorant too, it could be adding to the problem, use alum powder instead. A great home remedy is using lemons. Squeeze some juice into a cotton ball and apply. You can do it before going to bed at night and then wash it off in the morning. I wouldn't suggest it after shaving/waxing though. But it brings you armpits to its natural shade. Then save enough for a laser treatment to get rid of the hair removal hassle that creates the trauma. Good luck! :)

hey im gettinh married three months from now and want to look beautiful. i want to be able to dance without wondering who is looking at my underarms. im using a lotion called AmLactin. what can i use to get my dark skin to go away???

Unknown said...

Lemon & Baking Soda

I have been using a mixture of lemon and baking soda every evening and it's working for me. Just make sure not to step into the sun while you have the mixture on because it will darken your armpits.

So every night before I go to bed, I wash my underarms and apply the mixture. I wear a long sleeve shirt and go to bed. In the morning I shower and wear my normal deodorant.

Hope this helps. If you try this out, let me know if you see any results.

You guys, DO NOT use a skin peel like TCA or Glycolic Acid. Those things are for PALE WHITE people, and white people don't get dark armpits. If you are not like Scandinavian or Irish or one of those REALLY WHITE races, then your skin reacts to an injury by producing melanin, and melanin is what we are trying to get RID of in our armpits!! I am Mexican and my skin turns dark if I have a pimple, or if I scrape or scratch my skin and it bleeds and scabs. After it heals, the skin is darker, and that darkness sometimes takes a year to go away. Any kind of injury will make people of color produce more melanin in that area of the injury. Do not injure your skin by applying acid, because it will turn darker and you will regret it.

Anonymous said...

You've tried ph balanced deodorant, right? That helped me TONS!

Anonymous said...

I have the same problem and a lot of people have given me same advices...just apply lemon during shower and after shower at night...use a hypo allergenic deodorant unscented...It will lighten your discoloration after 2 wks...Hope this helps

hi! i am so desperate too...
i got my Green Peeling Oil at Kate Jones online, following diligently the instruction.i got a very red,raw underarm that turns brown to darker shade everyday. its about 5x darker of my skin tone color.
i am really frustrated, it's been a month. try to reach their help but no reply.
so i was trying all prods now from amira whitening-failed, yoko-underarm whitening failed, and now hydroquinone 4% with hydrocortisone 1% plus kojic acid soap. it lightens the folds but the rest even the skin around my armpit doesn't improve.
i hope someone had experience this one can share how they treat it. i cant wait for a year to let it heal.
thinking of seeing the dermatologist next month, hope i can find faster solution to lighten. i am very fair skin and got this very black armpits. -risktaker

hi! been following your blog posts for years now. I've noticed you still have the same problem till now. I, too have dark underarms before but i started using this whitening set my tita recommended and my problem is already a thing of the past. i've used it for only a month and its effective for me. its for the face actually but it really works even on my dark areas. no peeling whatsoever.

i was desperate 2 mos ago because i will be a bridesmaid at my friend's wedding and i will be wearing a sleeveless gown! when my tita told me about this set, i instantly gave it a try eventhough it was quite expensive but it was so worth it! ive never been so happier now that i got rid of my dark underams. i felt so liberated and i wish to share this with anyone who has the same problem i had. i hope i can help you too because i've spent a lot of money before on several treatments and products but it only lighten a bit then after the peeling, its back to its original state. if you wish to try the set, you can contact me 09324849132

Im using hortaleza TOTAL SOLUTION PERFECTING CREAM for 2months now and so happy for the result it really lightens my UA. :)

U can buy lighting cream at any pharmacy and u do not need a prescription. Skin bleach for the face may work great. I'm from mexico and in Mexico a lot of people use lime or lemon as dioderant every day including myself and works really good but when I moved here to California I use dove everyday much easier lol but when I got pregnant my armpit got really black, worst than yours so I star using lime again every day all day long in the morning like recular dioderant and I don't wash it off before every shower I mix lime and baking soda put it in my armpit for like 20 minutes then I take a shower and more lemon or lime. And my armpits are getting so nice and white. Try this I promes u will see results just make sure to do it every day.

if u are in Singapore check out devotion boutique at delfi orchard. They do UA bleaching and it really works. just that the products are pricey but it worth it

Hi All!

For anyone still reading this blog.. I just wanted to share a tip.!

I'm 20, i am of spanish&indian descent and I have golden brown skin (which can get fairer with cold temperature but I live in the Caribbean where it's very hot and i'm usually always exposed to the sun.. so i'm beautifully tanned for now) and very thick hair. The hair under my arms and around the pubic area are thickest on my body. That's probably because they are almost always kept warm and moist due to the environment and the way I dress. [Ordinary clothes and living in a hot & humid enivornment ie].. perfect conditions for beautiful, thick luscious hair!! But in the wrong place! Lol

Anyway, i've never tried waxing my pits because i'm sure the heat from the wax will only darken the area and leave me bruised as I have such sensitive skin.

I've learnt that antiperspirants make ur pits so dark!! And require you to use more each time.. plus they're filled with harsh metals! Bad for the body!

I tried making homemade deodorants but too much work.. I use a simple dove deodorant with only one swipe now. Less is more..!!

And I stopped shaving with a razor blade.. that only makes my pits darker especially when applying deodorant right after. How unsightly! Plus the hair grows back almost instantly so my pits only look kinda pretty for 2 days max! :/

I would like to buy an epilator as i've seen good reviews about It and i believe it is the answer to our pretty pit prayers!! Since I live in South America & dont have a credit card it's hard to get my hands on one .lol.. but I will soon!

Anyway, for now I use an electric razor like those used @ barber shops! I just let my [very thick] hair grow out for a few days..until it is about 1/4 of an inch thick and then i very carefully shave the hair off with the electric razor. It makes the pits look so much cleaner than a manual small blade and the hair re-grows maybe in the same amount of time.. but it comes back less dark each time!

The closer you put blades to your pits is the darker they will appear. Also, if you do shave often, remember to replace ur blades as nasty skin cells can get trapped in the razor and cause even more irritation and possibly infection! Don't use deodorant or chemicals after shaving at least for 1-2 hours afterward. And remember.. it's okay to let your pits breathe sometimes. That's one of the key things to being healthy AND happy!!

We're only human! I love my underarm hair most of the time :) Au natural is empowering and sexy!! Give it a try ladies.. I suggest you try purchasing an epilator or if you want something quicker and almost as good.. an electric razor!

Cheers, xx

Unknown said...

yeah im using epilator as well and its work great on me...;)

Unknown said...

try to use epilator!!! it can help to ger rid armpit hair from root to tips.. it can help to make your armpit whiten.. plus expoliate your skin.. im using certain whitening product to whiten my body.. face.. even armpit.. it u guyzz interested about it just msg me or reply me...

Unknown said...

Hey yah for ladies in the Philippines, try visiting Lay bare waxing salon for a better underarm waxing experience. They use cold wax instead of the conventional hot wax coz sometimes heated wax can cause burns which can make your armpits even darker..

Diva In Training said...

I actually just bought an epilator and will blog about that soon.

My problem (if you look at the pictures on older posts) is not the hair leaving a dark shadow at the roots...the actual SKIN is dark.

hi im not sure whether you had this checked out but from the looks of it you might have acanthosis nigricans. its a medical condition and may have something to do with obesity and insulin resistance. i used to have it around my neck and it looked disgusting. i lost some weight and its now gone.
