Fashion DON'T: See Through Leggings

Hello Divas!!!

I am personally not a fan of the leggings as pants trend. I just saw something that made me hate the leggings trend even more and that was

See through leggings with a short shirt.

Why would you want to do something like this?

Those leggings ...or stockings as far as I am concerned should only be worn UNDER something.

The girl I saw was actually dressed closer to this:

because it was freezing cold today. She was wearing a puffy jacket but her thong and butt cheeks were peeking out like this.

I don't care what your body shape this is just a fashion DON'T as far as I am concerned and no real diva would venture out of the house like this.

I don't care if you have a scandalously short skirt or shorts on but please...see through leggings are NOT pants.

Best Bangs For Divas

Hello Divas!!!

I am in love with bangs these days..even though I am growing mine out. I just wanted to take a quick look at some of the bangs I love lately.

These are cute and they are not too perfect so they still have a playful edge.

I love sideswept bangs and these are perfect for anyone who is growing their hair out. My bangs are now about the length shown here and they really get in the way if they are facing fully front.

If I sweep them to the side then it works much better.

Of course your bangs don't have to be perfectly straight to be cute..as shown by the model above.

What do your bangs look like now?

Simple Nails For Work

Hello Divas!

I am looking at a few nail blogs and also looking at some women's hands and I am wondering what they are thinking.

There are some hideous nails out there and some of them are even scary. I think you can have fun with your nails but still look classy and professional.

You can have a look like this for every day and still be a fabulous diva. It looks great, matches with everything and is short enough to let your comfortably perform all your daily tasks.

You can always go with a look like this if you want to play with color. It might not match every outfit but it will force you to do some careful wardrobe planning for at least a week.

You can always go with something like this if you want to be dramatic...but I am not a fan of complicated nail designs.

Whether you choose to go simple or dramatic you should make sure your nails always look good before you leave the  the house. Pick a day or two during the week when you check your manicure at night and fix any chips.

Do this consistently so it becomes a habit and you will always step out looking like the fabulous diva that you are!

How To Wake Up Looking Good

Hello Divas!

We would all love to wake up and roll out of bed looking great...but sadly that is just not a possibility. What you can do is to take steps to make sure you wake up looking GOOD so that you have to do as little as possible to end up looking GREAT before you walk out of the door.

Clean your face!
One of the most important things that you can do at night is to clean your face. I have a friend who has this as her mantra every night:
-Wash hands
-Brush teeth
-Wash face

She believed that even if you were too tired to take a shower or do anything else at night you MUST do those three things before bed. I totally believe that you should go to bed with a clean face because it helps to prevent breakouts.

You know that your skin rejuvenates itself while you sleep so starting off with a clean face is the best thing you can do.

You should always remove your makeup before bed to prevent clogged pores but even if you did not wear makeup you should still use a gentle cleanser to remove the sweat and dirt of the day from your skin.

Prep your hair!
You should go to bed with your hair prepped for the style you want the next day. If you want to have wavy hair then you can braid your hair the night before. When you wake up all you have to do is undo the braids and presto great waves without the use of heat.

You can also put your hair into a high ponytail on the top of your head if you want to keep it straight. If you can sleep with rollers you can use the soft ones to add some curl while you sleep. This will also have the benefit of you using less heat on your hair in the morning....which is always better for you hair.

Drink some water!
Always try to have a drink of water before you go to bed if you can handle it. Some people wake up at night to go the bathroom so they may want to drink just a little bit to avoid this. At the very least you should also keep a glass of water next to the bed so you can hydrate early in the morning. I get up around 5 am to go to the bathroom but don't actually get out of bed til 7. I drink a glass of water when I wake up at 5 so that I will be refreshed when I finally get up.

Get additional moisture!
Along with getting hydration from inside you need to seal in moisture from the outside. Most people are unaware that they sweat while sleeping...because they are asleep! You lose a LOT of water at night while you sleep so it is key to seal in as much as you can before bed.

Apply some lip balm to your lips as the skin there is thin and will dry out, especially if you lick your lips in your sleep, or breathe with your mouth open.

Use a heavy lotion on your hands and feet and if you use a night cream then go ahead and apply that to your face as well.

If you do all these simple things you will be taking the first steps to wake up looking good and then you can go on to looking great like the diva that you are!

Back On The Weight Loss Journey

Hello Divas,

So I have been on and off with my weight loss and really I have just been losing and putting on the same 5lbs for a LONG time.

This is mainly because I have not been serious with what I am doing. I will start a program and then quit in 3 days.

I will start to count my calories and stop tracking in a couple of days.

I will start to exercise and then quit in less than a week.

This year I have decided that I simply cannot be 160lbs at 5ft 3 inches. It is ridiculous and unhealthy and puts me at risk for diabetes...which runs in my family.

I have adopted a self created 1300 calorie plan...based on what I was told from a calorie tracker. Someone of my age and current weight who wants to drop a few lbs safely and who is mostly sedentary needs to eat 1300 calories a day to jump start the weight loss.

I can then move to eating 1500 as I increase my exercise levels.

To prepare myself for my healthier lifestyle I decided to go ahead and start back eating healthy along with trying to incorporate some exercise. I eat either a salad every day or a cup of fruits as a snack.

I have limited myself to eating bread only at breakfast time and I eat a smaller dinner than I used to.

I also eat 2 eggs every other day in some form or fashion. I may have scrambled eggs one day for breakfast, or 2 hardboiled eggs in my salad at lunch or use 2 eggs when I make crepes for breakfast.

I got a water bottle with a filter which contains 3 of the 8 recommended cups for the day. I make sure to drink two of the bottles every day and along with a cup when I take my vitamins plus a cup of tea I am getting about the amount of water that I need for the day.

I love grapefruits so I have started buying the canned one which I can transport better and which does not go bad.

I will be going back to work next week so I need to prepare a few meals that are portable and I can grab and take to work so that I do not end up eating out so much.

This will not only be good for my waistline but also for my budget.

Lastly I have started to do some exercise on a daily basis. I alternate days at home and days at the gym. When I go to the gym I pack in 30 minutes on the treadmill and ab machine and when I am at home I do 30 minutes with a low impact aerobics video I got off YouTube.

I am not able to exercise for a full 30 minutes without breaks yet but I realize that I need baby steps to get there and soon the weight will fall off as I get stronger.

Tentatively Going Natural With My Hair

Hello Divas!!!

I have been chemically straightening my hair for years now..although recently I have been using a texturizer instead of a complete relaxer.

Using the texturizer allows me to have a slight wave in the hair instead of it being stick straight and it also allows me to let my hair get wet and not freak out like most black women do. The last time I had the texturizer in was November 2012 when I had to attend a wedding.

I have since then decided to TRY to go natural because I feel that my hair has become very unhealthy and I just wanted to get it back in shape.

I am taking a very simple approach to going natural and I have decided NOT to cut off all my hair. The last time I tried to go natural I did cut off all my hair but I spoke to a friend recently and I have been reading from some people that you do not need to cut your hair.

Of course having the straight hair along with the new growth means that I just have to take extra care with my hair so that I do not have a mess when it is growing out.

I am still on the fence between going totally natural and having a texturized look that is more curly. I love the hair on Jasika Nicole (who plays Astrid on Fringe) and that is actually the look I want to go for.

My hair texture is not the same as hers so I would need to have a texturizer applied to get my hair to look like hers.

For now I am just going with growing it out so my scalp can get a break from chemicals...I might just decide to quit in a few months but so far so good.

Love Games Season 4 Fashion: Bad Dani

Hello Divas!

I am currently watching Love Games season 4 and while I love wedges I am wondering what is up with the wedges that Dani is wearing.

She wears the most AWFUL clunky wedges that totally make her outfits drop down a couple of notches. Not that her outfits are very cute to begin with...but the clunky shoes just make it look really dreadful. She is a cute girl but she needs help with her choice of shoes because those are a HOT mess.

Kitty Divas And Fewer Hairballs

Hello Divas!

I don't know about you but my cat is a true diva!!! One thing that our pets suffer from is getting hairballs but there is an easy fix that will reduce the amount of hair kitty swallows when grooming.

After you brush your cat take an extra minute to run a damp towel or cloth over her body. The damp cloth will pick up additional hairs that you might have missed and this will prevent your cat from swallowing them.

It also means fewer hairs to cling to your clothes and furniture so it is win win all around.
